    Bug T-Shirts

    • Kids will enjoy making fingerprint bug shirts that they can wear. Buy plain T-shirts and non-toxic fabric paint at a craft store. Show kids where they can add their designs on the front and back of the shirt. For butterflies, use two angled ovals on top and two circles on the bottom. Make a whole row of butterflies across the front of a shirt. Use a thumbprint in alternating colors to make a caterpillar that wraps around from the front of the shirt to the back. Make other bugs like ladybugs using overlapping red and black prints or encourage your kids to make their own creatures. They'll wear their creations proudly.

    Christmas Cards

    • Take your kids' fingerprinting expertise to the masses with cute Christmas card crafts. Buy blank cards at a craft store, then use a pencil to draw a circle on the front of each card. These circles will become wreaths. Have your kids dip their fingers in green paint and then press green fingerprints all the way around the circles. The prints don't have to be uniform and the circles don't have to be perfectly round. Have kids do a double row of prints if they want the wreaths to be wider. Add berries to the wreaths by having kids dip their pinkies into red paint and placing small fingerprints randomly around the wreath.

    Christmas Ornaments

    • Use the Christmas theme to decorate an ornament with fingerprints. Buy solid color plastic ornaments and non-toxic acrylic paints. Encourage kids to put fingerprint wreaths and other holiday images on the ornament. Try a penguin, using a thumbprint for the body, a thumb tip for the head, and pinkie prints for the wings, tummy and feet. Make a snowman using a thumbprint for the base, an index print for the middle, and a pinkie print for the top. Use paintbrushes to add eyes and a carrot nose. Make angels using angled pinkie prints for wings and overlap them with a thumbprint body. Paint on some halos.

    Mother's Day Vase

    • Moms love flowers and kids love painting them, so have your kids do a fingerprint craft on a vase for Mother's Day. Use a clean glass jar and non-toxic acrylic paints. Have kids add colorful flower prints to the jar, which will become a vase. One flower requires four similar fingerprints for the petals and an overlapping center. For example, four pinkie prints with a pinkie print center. Flowers should be printed all the way around the jar. When finished, seal with an acrylic sealer so the paint won't wash off when the vase gets wet. Fill the new vase with flowers on Mother's Day for a lovely and meaningful gift mom will always treasure.
