Going back to basics can often produce a fish out of nowhere, all of these baits have been around a lot longer than boilies, so if you are struggling for a run try putting a big piece of bread on a size 6 hook and drop it in the margins, this works especially well in the evenings just before dusk.
One thing to remember is carp fishing has changed over the years and the introduction of high protein baits like boilies has accounted for some incredible catches.
This type of bait has some great advantages, they are used on a hair rig so can be cast 150 yards and never come off, try doing that with bread!.
