How to Pick a Healthy Dog Food For Your Pet

103 11
Dog food used to be as simple as a can of Alpo every night for your pooch.
Now, you've got organic, pesticide free, hormone free, vegetarian, and every other imaginable product that may or may not be ideal for your dog's diet.
How do you know what your dog needs? Here are some things to consider when looking for a dog food for your best friend.
  1. Learn your dog's body condition score and let it be your guide- A gargantuan amount of Americans are not only they themselves overweight, but impose the condition on their pets as well.
I am a believer if you cannot find a rib on that animal, you're guilty of a prime against nature.
The risks associated with obesity are just as serious for your pets so get your pets as they are for you, on a food that meets their needs, and keep them off that wet food unless they are struggling being under weight.
  2. You can pay hundreds of dollars for the right food and blow the entire diet (as well as the rest of the dog's health) by cramming table scraps and human food down its throat.
So don't harbor any delusions about who that is really good for, and try to remember food isn't love when you are doling out that sausage patty at breakfast time.
Human food is usually filled with salt and preservatives, both items dogs tend to react poorly to, and although dogs really love these items they are not good for your pet and you cannot lie your way into feeling better about that fact.
  3. Generally speaking, if you can pronounce the items in the food, you are in good shape.
Meats and vegetables are both good for your dog, wild canines get much of the vegetation they need from ingesting the partially digested grasses and plant material in the intestines of the prey they kill.
If you can see something like Butylated Hydroxyanisole in your pet's food, you can start picturing the golden arches on the front of that package because that is what your dog is chewing.
I'm not saying Kibbles and Bits are responsible for canine cancer, but I'm not not saying it either.
You are not going to get quality food for 99 cents a pound no matter what your species.
