Collecting Rent Whenever you collect rent, you stand maybe a 1 in 5 chance of getting a lightening bolt back.
This is a bit of a gamble and you always need at least one unit of energy to do it.
Visit Neighbors Each time you visit a neighbor you get some free energy.
This is an easy one.
There is a limit though.
I forget exactly what it is but after around 10 visits you don't get any more.
Check Your Inventory This is so easy to forget - your neighbors will have given you energy gifts.
Make sure that you return the favor too.
The more often you do this then the more regularly you will get energy.
Wait If you wait then you will start to accumulate energy again.
Just go away from the game and leave it for a few hours.
Buy With Cash If you are desperate, you can spend CityVille cash on energy.
Not the best idea because you could spend it better on other things.
More Neighbors The more neighbors you have, the more free energy gifts you will get.
Also, you will get more people helping out on your city and this means you don't have to spend your own energy on these tasks.
Franchises Franchises allow you to operate businesses in other people's cities.
The advantage of this is that it does not cost you energy to run them.
