In these hard economic times holidaying abroad may no longer be a feasible idea. But don't worry you can still have a relaxing and fun holiday here in Yorkshire. There is no need to leave the country when these amazing historic tourist attractions are on your doorstep. Coastline Leisure Yorkshire Caravan parks offer the highest quality and greatest value static caravans near great historic places.

So what's so great about Yorkshire? First of all there is the great city of York near to our Yorkshire Caravan Park Jamie Cragg's. Tourist attractions include:

  • Eden Camp

  • York Dungeons

  • Clifford's tower

  • York Castle Museum

  • The National Railway Museum

  • York Minster

Clifford's tower is an exciting historic place originally built by William the Conqueror in 1068 as a statement of his power over the region. Does his name sound familiar to you? It should! He is famous for invading England in 1066, after successfully defeating and killing Harold at the Battle of Hastings. The tower served as a prison and royal mint. The tower is also legendary because it is where Henry the VII displayed the bodies of his enemies!

In York you could also visit the York Castle Museum, whereby one of the inmates includes the well-known highwayman Dick Turpin. After being captured in Yorkshire he remained in the castle awaiting his death sentence. He was later hanged in 1739 for horse theft. The castle is now one of Britain's leading museums of everyday life. It shows how people used to live by displaying thousands of household objects and by recreating rooms, shops, streets, and even prison cells.

You could also be close to the medieval town of Beverley and Kingston-upon-Hull at High Farm caravan park. Why not visit the Beverley Minster which has the architectural grandeur of a cathedral rather than a church and was first built in 700 AD! The bones of the founder Saint John of Beverley still remain under the foundations.

The city of Hull was also the birthplace of English politician, William Wilberforce. He is renowned for his influence in abolishing the slave trade in 1807. Wilberforce's involvement in the abolition movement was motivated by a desire to put his Christian principles into action and to serve God in public life.
