Writing Your Blog
Yet keeping up with a blog can be harder than you may realize.
The content must be entertaining and easy to read.
Readers who aren't pulled in by what they are reading are likely to leave for another blog.
Humor can help to keep people coming back, but it's important to follow a few guidelines.
Be yourself.
Trying to write like someone else is a bad idea.
If you are writing a blog, people expect you to be an expert on the topic.
Trying to write like someone else will eventually be noticed by readers, and can damage your credibility, even if you truly are an expert.
Don't try to mimic your favorite comedians.
They have their own style, and you have your own style.
Your own style is enough Ð it's great to add humor but if you try to mimic another you will soon be considered a phony.
Perhaps you are worried that others may not appreciate your style of humor.
Some won't, and that's OK.
People who identify with your style will keep coming back.
People who don't will move onto another blog.
But if you are not true to your own style, you are likely to lose the readers who identify with your style.
Consider your audience.
It's important to consider the demographics for the people who are most likely to find your blog useful and entertaining.
Stick with your niche and those who relate to it will keep coming back.
While you'll want to avoid upsetting your audience, don't go too far in catering to them either.
Pandering will eventually turn some people away, as they are coming to your blog for current information.
Read it out loud.
Read your post out loud before posting it.
Reading your blog out loud before posting it can help to see how it really reads to others.
