How to Weave Juice Boxes

104 15
    • 1). Rinse out the juice boxes.

    • 2). Disassemble the juice boxes, using your scissors, so they lay flat. Rinse the juice boxes again so they are completely free of juice. Pat the boxes dry with paper towels.

    • 3). Cut off the tops and bottoms of the juice boxes. You should have one large rectangle.

    • 4). Lay your ruler against the bottom edge of the juice box and mark off 1/2-inch increments with your pencil. Do the same with the top edge of the juice box. Connect the marks at the top and bottom of the juice box. These lines make it much easier to cut the box into 1/2-inch strips. If you have a paper cutter, omit this step.

    • 5). Cut along the lines to create 1/2-inch strips. Alternatively, you can use a paper cutter.

    • 6). Arrange 18 strips so they run up and down in front of you, with the colored side facing up.

    • 7). Place the remaining strips in a pile near you. These strips will run from left to right in your weaving pattern.

    • 8). Turn one strip so the colored side shows. Place it under the first strip on the left, then over the next strip. Continue alternating under-and-over until you reach the last strip on the right. Push the strip up so you have space below it to weave the second strip. Because the strips shift slightly as you weave, arrange them so they run in straight lines after you finish this first pass.

    • 9). Select a second strip. Run it over the first strip on the left, then under the next strip. Alternate over-and-under until you reach the last strip. Continue weaving strips, with each odd-numbered strip beginning under and each even-numbered strip beginning over, until there is no room for additional strips. After weaving each strip, push it up to meet the previous strip and re-form the straight lines of your pattern.

Shift the strips running from left to right so they are tightly packed. Once you have a tight weave, you might need to weave an additional strip or two to fill in the additional space.

Cut a long strip of dental floss, approximately 3 1/2 feet long. Weave the dental floss around all four edges of the placemat. Tie a double knot and trim the ends with the scissors. The dental floss secures the pattern of your woven juice box placemat.
