Goal Setting for Online Business - How to be a Goal Getter
Is your online business as organized as you would like? Do you have a vision as to where you want to go but just can't get there? Do you have endless ideas but never seem to get around to making them a reality? If so, how is your goal setting? Your goal getting?
I will be the first one to raise my hand in the air and admit that although I would like to consider myself a "goal getter", I have a history of being a "goal setter". I have absolutely no problem setting goals; in fact I have numerous little pieces of paper with lists all over the place that confirms that I am a fabulous goal setter. The problem is that many of my goals have died on the piece of paper; many are the goal I have set and not acted on. If there were an island for all of my lost goals, it would be the size of Australia.
Not long ago I set out to make some changes in my life and online business, becoming a "goal getter" was one of them. I quickly stumbled upon what seemed to be a very effective way to not only map out my goals but also give me an action plan to achieve them.
I have broken this "system" into four parts.
1. Set a date
2. Break it down the "SMART" way
3. Attach an Emotion/Visualize
4. TAKE ACTION
1.Set a Date
The first thing to do is set a date on the goal. Give it a deadline, this way it has an expiry date. This almost immediately ups the ante. Now you are accountable for completing that goal by a specific time. Post the goal, with its date in visible places so that you can keep focused on it. The more important the goal, the more places you may want to post it. After all, a goal without a date is just a wish and wishes don't put dollars in your back account.
2. Break it down the 'SMART" way
If you are not familiar with SMART goals I will give you a quick run down. Breaking things down the SMART way is a process of taking what seems like a huge, sometimes impossible task and making it a series of smaller, much simpler steps. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time bound. Simply put, it's a way to manage the process. Don't be afraid to celebrate the small victories along the way. Each step takes you closer to achieving your goal. Choose to fight from victory not for it.
3. Attach an Emotion/Visualize
This is a very important step. The bigger the goal, the more important this step is. Attach an emotion to the goal. Be specific in the emotions, think about how achieving the goal will make you feel, how it may change your life etc… Take some time to visualize daily and most importantly believe that you can achieve it. This will help your subconscious really take hold of the goal and steer you in the direction of achieving it. Ultimately this keeps you focused, it's very easy to give up and abandon the goal but if you have really put this step into action, you will create a burning desire to finish, whatever the cost. When you are thinking about giving up, remember why it is you've come this far.
4. Take Action
This is the most important step to take if you really want to become a goal getter. Simply put, the buck stops with you! Whether you take action or not, you are likely the only one who is going to notice. You need to be accountable and proactive, but most of all you need to BE something. Commit and do something every day that will get you one-step closer to victory. Most importantly, don't get stuck in the cycle of "getting ready to get ready". I have burned much time and energy in this state and nothing gets done. So buck up, dig deep and take action.
In conclusion, if you put this into practice, you will likely find that what once seemed like a stumbling block has suddenly become a victory. To really see success in your life and online business you must become a master of goal setting and getting. Those who succeed do so because they took the time to make a plan, and stuck with it until it was complete. If you can commit to mastering this process, you will likely discover just how close you are to achieving your goals and dreams. With a plan, some hard work, and a lot of determination, success may just be waiting for you around the next corner.
