Massage Therapists Who Feel Like A Fraud

Beating The Fraud Feeling

One of the frequent hurdles new Massage Therapists bang their head against is the feeling that you're a Fraud - never mind your training, despite your competency, deep down you have a inner critic saying that you have no right to be saying you do this for a living. Yes?

When you ask a business owner "What's the purpose of your practice?" they'll often state "To make a profit" and they're mistaken. That may be one of the motivations you chose to launch your own practice, but if you get this wrong, you're going to effort and struggle. You'll never get rich and make money by trying to get rich and make money!

And best of all you get to feel immense satisfaction, pride and caring because you know what you have done for that individual

You too?

This is a common problem and it's utter nonsense!

Your mother thinks you're a flake.. Your friends don't know what to say and they really don't know how you feel. And there are plenty of cowboys on the high street who did a 2 day course and now call themselves an expert. It says so right there on their cheap and nasty business card. And that makes you squirm, doesn't it?

Your biggest enemy in growing a fulfilling practice is yourself!

A fraud is a fake, a doppelganger who's hiding in plain sight, making deceitful claims in order to fool people and con people out of money on purpose. Are you truly thinking that's what YOU are?

Told you.

Only 3 blocks get in your way - this is one of them.

Probably not, so why does it frequently feel like you're not allowed to truly adopt your career choice with total power? Well, here's what my private clients often reveal to me:

I don't really know what I'm doing yet - then focus on what you DO know
My own life isn't perfection yet - what is important in Coaching or Therapy is THEIR private life, not yours
I have few [if any] clients - think how many people you've assisted over the years in one way or another

Action Step - a way around it
Write down the truth to the following question - "How do I know I feel like a fraud?" Then look for reference experiences to challenge that belief.

Most massage therapists need about 4 reference experiences to reinforce a new belief. So dig into your past experienceor quickly get 4 clients to work with and earn your callusses. Eventually even you will have to admit it's rubbish!

If you want to amplifyyour confidence, raise your standards and reinvigorate your practice, ask your existing clients [assuming you're not brand new] "What do you get out of us working together?"

The massage therapist who has a conviction formassage has always helped people, they just didn't know that was what to call it. Immense faith and fulfilment fuels their drive to innovate and create new products and services, and they radiate passion and belief and subsequently have fuller diaries.

Record a short interview between you and a friend who'll ask you to discuss these points.

Massge Therapy is not conning people - trying to impress, flirt and gradually convince into "buying". Attraction-based Marketing is positioning yourself as the one to go to in full view of the patients who need you the most.
