Types of Classes in "MapleStory"
- Characters who choose the magician class primarily use magical attacks and spells. Typically, they have very high MP (mana points) and very low HP (hit points). Some types of magicians have area-of-effect (AoE) and damage-over-time (DoT) spells in addition to spells that do direct damage or healing. There are nine magician subclasses: fire/poison wizard, fire/poison mage, fire/poison arch mage, ice/lightening wizard, ice/lightening mage, ice/lightning arch mage, cleric, priest and bishop.
- The warrior is the strongest melee class in the game. Warriors generally have high HP and low MP, and wear armor with high defensive bonuses. The warrior class is ideal for players who want to perform a tanking role. There are nine warrior subclasses: fighter, crusader, hero, page, white knight, paladin, spearman, dragon knight and dark knight.
- The pirate class is known for its speed and versatility. Pirates can choose between melee and ranged subclasses. Gunslingers, for example, wield guns and attack at range for relatively low damage, while the brawler subclass offers a melee combat option with high damage output, but greater likelihood of taking high amounts of damage due to close proximity to enemies. The six pirate subclasses are brawler, marauder, buccaneer, gunslinger, outlaw and corsair.
- Thieves (alternately called "rogues") specialize in high evasion, mobility and accuracy. Although thieves have relatively low HP compared to other melee classes, their very high damage output makes them popular choices for party quests. The 11 thief subclasses are assassin, hermit, night lord, bandit, chief bandit, shadower, blade recruit, blade acolyte, dual master, slasher and dual blader.
- The archer class uses ranged attacks against enemies and specialize in accuracy. Archers generally have low HP, but the highest defensive armor bonuses of all the ranged classes. There are six archer subclasses: hunter, ranger, bow master, crossbowman, sniper and marksman.
