How to Find Percentage for Gross Pay vs. Net Pay

104 9
    • 1). Locate your pay stub. If you earn different amounts each month, you may want to perform this calculation using averages from several pay stubs.

    • 2). Find your gross pay on your pay stub. This is the amount you earned from your employer during that pay period. If you're salaried, it will be an appropriate fraction of your annual salary. If you're an hourly employee, it should equal your hourly wage -- including overtime -- times the number of hours you worked during that period.

    • 3). List the deductions on your pay stub. Common deductions include taxes, retirement contributions and employee contributions for health insurance.

    • 4). Total the deductions. Subtract the total from your gross pay. This is your net pay and should match the net pay listed on your pay stub -- and the deposit into your bank account or the number on your paycheck.

    • 5). Divide the net pay by your gross pay, then multiply the result by 100. This number is the percentage of your gross pay represented by your net.
