Rain Barrel Use Instructions
- 1). Position a rain barrel beside the downspout. Mark a point 12 inches above the top of the rain barrel on the downspout.
- 2). Cut the downspout with a hacksaw. Make a cut that is horizontally level through the downspout with the hacksaw. Remove the cut section of downspout and place in a safe location so it will be available for installation if the rain barrel is removed in the future.
- 3). Attach a downspout elbow to the cut end of the downspout. Install the elbow so the end stands out away from the side of the building to which the downspout is attached. Secure the elbow to the straight downspout with a self tapping screw and screwdriver.
- 4). Attach a second downspout elbow to the end of the first elbow so that the end points down toward the ground. Secure the elbows together with a self-tapping screw and a screwdriver
- 5). Position the rain barrel under the downspout so water will flow directly into the barrel. Place a masonry patio block under the rain barrel, if desired, to help support the barrel as water is collected.
- 6). Dip water out of the rain barrel for use on landscape and garden plants, or if it has a hose connection on the bottom, use a hose.
