What Can I Put Under a TV Stand So It Doesn't Scratch a Hardwood Floor?

    Wheels

    • Use wheels for smaller television stands. Most stands have legs or leg holes that allow you to insert a compatible wheel into the hole. Look at the bottom of the stand or legs. A stand often has a rubber insert to protect the wood surface from the floor. Many wheels have a similar insert assembly that allows you to glue the insert inside the hole so the wheel is secure. A stand on wheels does not damage hardwood flooring.

    Rubber

    • Rubber and silicone cups, plugs and pads are sold to protect flooring surfaces from the bottom of furniture. If the furniture has legs, look for cups that fit over the bottom of the legs. Cups are made in a wide variety of shapes and sizes to accommodate different furniture styles. Some pads have adhesive backing so you can peel and stick the pad directly on any wood or hard surface. Plugs are made of rubber or other materials that slide into a drilled hole in the bottom of the furniture.

    Felt

    • Felt is a good fabric to use underneath heavy furniture and art pieces. You may purchase adhesive-backed felt to peel and stick to the bottom of furniture. If the TV stand or other object is unusual in design, you may buy sheet felt and adhesive, then cut the felt to match the underside of the stand. Felt reduces friction, making felt padding easy to slide across a hardwood floor. If you think you will move the stand with any frequency, choose a product that allows for easy movement.

    Adjustable Feet

    • Screw-in adjustable feet are sold in a variety of sizes. In general, the adjustable foot is round and has a smooth bottom. As long as the TV stand is stationary, the foot does not scratch the floor. If you move the furniture, add a felt pad over the bottom of the adjustable foot. Adjustable feet are good for homes with uneven floor surfaces where furniture rocks. By installing the feet, the furniture no longer rocks. It is the rocking motion that can cause dents and scratches on uneven floors.
