Home Remedies for Panic Attacks – As Simple as a Cup of Tea?
Valerian Root tea has an excellent reputation for promoting sleep and calming anxiety. Its strong flavor doesn't please everybody so you might like to try it with some honey.
Kava is a member of the peppercorn family and it is a very popular beverage in the South Pacific. It has long been used as a relaxant and is effective in the treatment of insomnia.
The use of St John's Wort goes back thousands of years. Hippocrates, a physician in ancient Greece, used the tea to treat depression and anxiety and it is still used in this capacity today. One of its side effects is that it increases sensitivity to light so it might not be everybody's cup of tea. It can also affect some conventional medicines, so always consult your doctor if you are already on medication.
Passionflower aids digestion as well as relaxes the nervous system. It is used as an ingredient in a German sleeping pill and in a chewing gum in Rumania marketed as a sedative.
Other teas you might like to try are chamomile, lavender and lemon balm. Some people find one tea works best while others prefer a different one. Try them out and see which has the best effect for you. A word of caution, however. Just because these are natural products, does not mean that there are no side effects. If you intend to use the teas often, then you should be aware of the problems you may have over time. If in doubt, consult your doctor.
