The Dangers of Swimming Pools

103 10
During the hot summers, a swimming pool can feel like heaven.
It's a great place for exercise, family time, fun, and just general relaxation.
You can swim laps, host neighborhood parties, and hang out with friends by the pool.
As wonderful as this all may sounds, you may not realize the many dangers that come with swimming pools.
This article will look at the many things that can go wrong during a happy summer day out by the pool.
Many people think that drowning is the only bad thing that can happen out by a pool.
However, this is entirely untrue.
Drowning is only one way that people can get seriously injured and even die at the swimming pool.
Here is a brief list of the hazards that lurk out by the pool.
Drowning.
As the second-leading cause of death for children under 14, drowning is a primary concern for parents and caregivers when taking the kids to the pool.
Although some community pools might include kiddie pools, children can still fall under the water and drown.
Drowning can come as a result of the inability to swim, losing consciousness because of injury, negligence, etc.
Disemboweling.
Gross and horrific as it may sound, this is a viable threat to people who swim while the pool's drain is activated.
The strong suction force of a drain can entrap a victim and disembowel him or her, as well as hold the person in its power for so long that they drown.
If a pool's drain is on too strongly, or it does not have a cover, it can cause a person's insides to be pulled out of their rectum, resulting in terrible internal damages, if the person even survives.
Slips and Falls.
If the surface around a pool does not correctly drain off the water that splashes onto it, the decking can become dangerously slippery and can basically cause a person to hydroplane and fall.
As the deck surface around a pool is typically hard, this can result in head injuries, scrapes, and even broken or chipped bones when someone falls.
Diving Board Injuries.
It can be so much fun to watch, if not participate in, diving board games such as Jump or Dive.
However, it is easy for someone to sustain an injury on a diving board.
People can scrape themselves on sharp steps, as well as fall off the sides of a diving board if it does not have safety rails.
Additionally, those who choose to do flips and other jumps off the board can hit their heads on the edge of the board or even the sides of the pool.
If you choose to own a pool or go to a neighborhood pool, beware of the dangers that are present in and around the water.
If you are an adult with children, you should remain vigilant in making sure you can see your children at all times just in case.
Should you have a pool at home, you may want to put up a fence around the water so that kids cannot accidentally drown themselves by falling in.
Swimming pool accidents are terrible and often tragic.
If you or someone you know has suffered a personal injury due to negligence on the part of the owner or builder of a pool, you may be entitled to monetary compensation to fix your injuries.
