Pros & Cons of Pot Filler Faucets

104 31

    Function

    • The purpose of a pot filler faucet is to provide a way to fill pots without having to carry the pot from one side of the kitchen to the other. This is especially helpful in larger kitchens or in kitchens designed for older people who may lack the strength to carry heavy pots from one place to another. This is one of the main advantages to a pot filler faucet.

    Time Saving

    • Another advantage to having a pot filler faucet is that it can be time saving. Rather than having to sit at the sink and watch a pot fill up you can turn the faucet on directly at the stove. While at the stove you can continue to cook other things and keep an eye on the filling pot at the same time. You also do not have to take the time to carefully walk across the floor with a heavy pot that could spill over any second. When the pot faucet is right above the stove you save time and effort.

    Safety

    • Another benefit of pot filler faucets is safety. Carrying pots of water across the kitchen can be hazardous to your health and the health of others. If you bump into someone while carrying the pot, the water can spill out and cause slipping that could end in broken bones or sprained ankles.

    Leaks

    • While there are many benefits to pot filler faucets, there are also some disadvantages as well. One of the main disadvantages of this kind of faucet is leaking. If the faucet is not installed properly, it will leak. When leaks occur, either it leaks directly from the faucet spout or it leaks from the plumbing behind the wall. Both of these leaks can be annoying and damaging to your appliances and structural support of the house.

    Structural Issues

    • Another disadvantage to having a pot filler faucet is the issue of structure and placement. The faucets have to be retraced and stored against the stove backsplash or cabinets surrounding the stove. If the faucet is placed too low then it will be worthless for filling large pots. The faucet can also cause problems by getting in the way of cabinets or other pieces of equipment in the kitchen. The pot filler faucet can also look unsightly against the kitchen walls.
