How to Lay Out Postcards to Photo Copy

104 9
    • 1). Create your layout space. The standard U.S. postcard size is at least 3 1/2 inches by 5 inches to a maximum of 4.25 inches by 6 inches according to U.S. Postal Service regulations. It is possible to put multiple postcard designs on one sheet of paper depending on the size, which will be cut into separate cards later.

    • 2). Add the artwork to the layout. Keep important information on the layout away from the edge. After copying, the sheets will be cut. However, sometimes the cutting is not accurate. Allow a margin area between the edges to allow for wayward cuts.

    • 3). Design the back of the card according to your local postal regulations to avoid putting information that should not be there. The U.S. Postal Service has regulations laid out for postcard design (see "Resources"). The information on the back of the card is normally printed in black and white. Keep important information away from the edges.

    • 4). Print out a prototype of the design and cut it up to see how it looks before taking it for photocopying.
