Michael Caine on Working Around Pyrotechnics: Michael Caine and Christian Bale share a scene in "Batman Begins" in which [keeping this as spoiler free as possible] a lot of fire is involved. ?I was a soldier when I was a very young man. I?ve tried to stay away from pyrotechnics as much as possible for the rest of my life.
I was of an age when there wasn?t that much stuff. Remember, it?s only in the recent years when you?d be a leading man in that kind of thing.
But I was in ?Goldmember,? which was quite pyrotechnical on a comedy basis. But I?ve not been in any films where sort of special effects lead the picture.?
Is Michael Caine Committed to Doing Another ?Batman? Movie?: ?Mentally, I am. Yeah, I really want to,? Caine said, adding that contractually he?s not locked in.
Michael Caine on Tom Cruise: Michael Caine was paired up with Katie Holmes for the ?Batman Begins? interviews and Caine seemed to be taking all of the Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes relationship questions in good humor. In fact, when Caine was asked his opinion on Cruise, he came up with a pretty amusing anecdote.
?I met Tom before she did. I met Tom, oddly enough, the first time I met Tom it was at the after-party at the premiere here of a picture I did called ?Educating Rita.? My wife went to the toilet and so there was an empty seat next to me and suddenly there was this young man sitting next to me and he said, ?I want to be a movie actor.? And he was telling me about how - he was very young - and he was telling me about how he wanted to be a movie actor and then I told him good luck.
And I thought, ?Boy, he?d go somewhere.? I said, ?What?s your name?? And he said, ?My name?s Tom Cruise, sir.? And then he went - and that was it. And he called me ?sir?. I just saw him in the corridor he called me ?Michael.? I guess I?ve come down in the world. Course, I?m a butler, that?s what it was (laughing).?
