Suggestions for the Best Pumpkin Painting
- Choose a large table that you can spread the pumpkins and decorating tools on. Cover the space with newspaper to allow for easy cleanup once finished. Place a roll of paper towels and wet wipes on the table to easily wipe paint from your fingers. Wear old clothing or a smock that you do not mind getting splattered with paint.
- Wipe the pumpkin with a damp cloth before placing it on the table and let it air-dry thoroughly or dry with a towel. Since the pumpkins have been sitting in sand and dirt, there may still be some particles left behind. Spray the pumpkin with a garden hose if it has mud on it. Spray or paint the pumpkin with a sealant before decorating and let dry for two hours.
- Use a pencil or black permanent marker to draw or trace designs onto the pumpkin. Draw a jack-o'-lantern's face or create your own design. To trace designs, use a pencil and transfer paper to trace computer clip art. Place the clip art onto the transfer paper and trace the image with the pencil to transfer it onto the pumpkin. To make lines and squares, place masking tape on the pumpkin.
- Use a medium-sized paintbrush and acrylic paint to paint the entire pumpkin. To paint details, wait until the pumpkin dries and use a smaller brush. Be creative and paint characters on the pumpkin like bats, monsters or Dracula. Embellish the pumpkin. Get a hot glue gun to place sequins, yarn or pompoms around the pumpkin for a creative touch.
