Camping Chairs - Do They Diminish the Experience?

103 12
Camping is all about getting into nature but does it have to be so uncomfortable? I have been camping loads of times recently and the same discussion always comes up when I get my camping chairs out of the car.
Everyone always goes on about how we are in the wild to get to grips with nature and if we wanted creature comforts then we should have stayed at home.
But they are only camping chairs.
How much richer is their experience without these camping chairs? Are they truly at one with nature when I'm living a decadent city life corrupted by the materialistic call of camping chairs? Honestly, I doubt it.
I think that their main objection to camping chairs when we are out there is that they don't have one and I am looking really comfortable in mine.
Perhaps if I bought camping chairs for the whole group then we would not have had that discussion.
So, after all this discussion about chairs and how I thought that I was getting the same experience of the beautiful outdoors but from a more comfortable viewing point, you could imagine what was discussed when I bought out the camping tables.
Some of people I went camping with went mental (and if you are reading this you know who you are).
It was like I had turned up to a yoga class with load speakers playing the most obscene club music.
They are just camping tables! They are useful for keeping ants off your food.
So there I was with my camping chairs and camping tables set up around me just outside my tent.
I will admit that I probably didn't need a 6 man tent for just me but then I needed a large tent for my camp beds.
That's right, I had more than one because at the time I bought them the singles were on a 2 for 1 deal which made them cheaper than the double camp beds.
Joking aside for now, I agree that I take a lot of creature comforts with me when I go camping.
I know this but what confuses me is why it bothers other campers that I am in comfort and somehow that diminishes my experience.
I am not going to the wild to be uncomfortable because I can do that at home by throwing some sticks and stones under the bed sheet.
I am going to the wild to do activities that I can't do in the city and when I am not fishing, walking, gathering wood for a camp fire then I would like to be comfortable so that the next day I can do more.
I personally think that it is the camping purists that have it all wrong.
So you will forgive me if I eat from camping tables whilst sitting in camping chairs before I go to sleep on my camp beds.
