How to Connect a Laptop to a TV With Sound
- 1). Connect your laptop's video to your television: You will need an S-Video output on your computer, an S-Video input on your television and an S-Video connector cable. Before connecting the devices, make sure the laptop is sitting on something sturdy near your television.
- 2). Connect your laptop's audio to your television: You will need a male-to-male audio cable. Plug one end into the audio output on your laptop and plug the other end into an audio input port on your television.
- 3). Turn your laptop to the television mode. Go into the "Properties" menu on your laptop background. Go to "Display Settings" and choose the option to mirror the laptop background on your television. Now whatever is playing on your laptop will be playing on your television.
- 4). Turn the television on and change the channel to the S-Video input. Depending on the television, this might be indicated by "Aux" or it may be a separate channel used exclusively for S-Video input. Check your television's manual to make sure you are on the correct channel. If you are seeing the image from your laptop on your TV screen, then you are on the correct channel.
- 5). Check the sound levels. With the audio cable in place, you should hear sound coming from your television. If you are not getting any sound, make sure the volume is turned up on both your laptop and your television. If the sound still is not working, you may need to replace your audio cable.
