Compressed Air Leaks -Why Early Detection Is Important

101 9
Compressed air is today being used in various segments in the industrial sector. The cost of the compressed air is significantly high and thus the need for preserving it and minimizing its wastage becomes even more important. But since air has the tendency to force out of even the tiniest little available opportunity, the leakage becomes a matter of concern. When there is Compressed Air Leaks it not only leads to wastage of the compressed air but also affects the entire machinery as a whole. The pressure required for a system to operate drops down considerably thereby forcing the machine to operate for a longer period and with extra pressure. This surely increases the wear and tear of the machine and reduces its lifespan. The longer running time means increased maintenance and downtime.

The Compressed Air Leaks can occur anywhere in the system but the more likely areas are the joints, regulators, couplings, shut off valves and the thread sealants. Unlike the leakage of liquids that are apparently visible, the Compressed Air Leaks are difficult to detect without any special help. For this, special methods and equipments need to be used to not only locate the Compressed Air Leaks but to find them faster and fix them immediately. These air leakages no doubt give out a hissing out, but that is so mild that a human ear cannot detect it. And for this, there comes the special detector called the Ultrasonic Acoustic Detector which can track even the mildest of the hissing sound very fast. This enables that you can detect and fix the leakage at the earliest to avoid further leakage and loss.  Though other traditional systems like applying soap water on the body that contains the compressed air, are there, they are slow and time consuming and thus are less effective in cost control.

One can minimize the Compressed Air Leaks by following certain strategic and simple steps. First of all, get acquainted with the machine itself, how it operates, what are the possible areas that can lead to the leakage, what effective steps can be taken to efficiently operate the machines. Secondly, you must keep an Air Leak Management in place. The said team would inspect the machines regularly and check for any weak points or existing leakages and take necessary steps immediately. Thirdly, ensure that the pressure in the system is properly stabilized. A fluctuation in that would cause the weak points to burst, small holes to widen up leading to excess leakage. Fourthly, there should be a regular maintenance of the systems. This ensures that there is no blockage, hindrances that would make the system to function with extra pressure that overloads the weak points and leading to Compressed Air Leaks. Fifthly, the compressor should have only the required capacity. Any excessive capacity means loss

Such effective steps to reduce Compressed Air Leaks can save considerable amount of cost of the company and also help in maintaining a regular demand and supply process, reduced downtime and increased lifespan of the machinery.
