To Much Of A Good Thing
Most discoveries and inventions are welcomed with open arms until us humans find a way to abuse its benefits.
Television (TV) was one the inventions that just so happened to be abused.
In the beginning television was invented with positive reasons such as entertainment, news communications, and try to eliminate national borders.
However, people are now trying to overcome it psychological effects on humans.
One of the psychological effects of watching an excessive amount of TV is straining of the eyes.
A problem that I have noticed is that most people set to close to the TV when they are watching it.
It has been proven that a safe way to watch TV is to be 7ft away from the TV, in a room that is adequately lit with light.
Along with that the TV should be at eye level.
However, if you do all of this it still want prevent your eyes from getting tired if you watch to much TV at one period of time.
Another effect of watching to much TV is obesity.
This is widely spreading in people who like to watch TV and eat at the same time on numerous occasions.
Food companies are trying to take advantage of these people by making food that they call "TV snacks," that they find suitable for eating while in front of a TV.
One example of how eating in front of a TV can effect you is unhealthy side effects.
For example, John is a childhood friend of mine who use to be one of the most active human I knew, until his parents put cable into his room.
Once this happen John started spending more, and more time in the house watching TV.
It got to the point where instead of wanting to come outside, he would rather invite us over to watch TV with him.
Almost every time we would go over he would be eating something.
Over a few months period John gained over twenty pounds, and developed asthma.
The final psychological effect that too much TV can have is violence.
If one person sees a lot of violent scenes on the TV, they might start adopting these violent actions as normal behavior.
Therefore, making them lose their sensitivity to their surrounding environment.
Also connected to this effect is that their interpersonal communications with other people decline.
For example, some married couples prefer to come home and interact with the TV, instead of communicating with each other after a long day of work.
When they do try to communicate it normally leads to an argument, which normally gets violent.
Although this may not be what they want it is the only way they know how to interact with each other, since that is what they see on the TV.
This will continue to go on until someone gets fed-up and file for divorce.
All of this happens because the TV has become has become a powerful machine that people cannot seem to distance themselves from, because it is addictive like a drug.
While inventions are meant to be helpful for humans, if we learn how to benefit from them.
If we learn how to TV in the right way such as education, and entertainment we may be able to change all of the effects into a positive reality.
