Creative writing is one of the most amazing and yet easy to do activity. It can be a fantastic activity for children as well as for adults. All you need for creative writing is pen and paper or a computer with a text editor. You may be wondering how about the creativity part. Well, we are all creative by nature, but some of us may not have had the opportunity to bring out the creativity inside of us. There are plenty of creative writing techniques and ideas that can be used to learn creative writing.
One such technique is called the creative writing prompt. Examples of creative writing prompts are as follows.
1) Write in great detail about the lunch that you had today.
2) Write 10 sentences about a movie that you had enjoyed recently.
3) Explain the various types of animals that you have seen in the zoo.
The examples shown above a general and are great for starting a creative writing exercise. In order to be really creative and write something that is new, other techniques can be employed. Examples of this are listed below.
4) Write about the children playing in the park from their own perspective. In this creative writing exercise, the emphasis is on taking the character of another person and writing about that.
5) Choose a colour and then choose a tree. Combine the colour and the tree and write a creative piece about the combination. For example write about a blue coconut tree.
6) Choose a city and write about what would you be doing in that city if you had been born and have been living there.
7) Write one page for each year of your life from the time you were born till now. Highlight interesting things that has taken place in each of the years.
8) Create a new animal by combining two other animals. Describe the new animal and give it a name.
9) Write in great detail about your favorite toy.
As you can see, there are plenty of creative writing ideas that are available around us. We just need to think a little creatively and step out of the box to get us going in the right path to creative writing.
