Haunted House Decorating Ideas

    Animatronics

    • Animatronics---moving decorations you can find at any Halloween or party store---add life and scare to a haunted house. Since animatronics are expensive, consider buying only one and mixing it in with several regular props. For example, a room full of creepy, life-sized monsters is even creepier when one moves or makes noise when a guest walks by. Not knowing which of the rubber dummies is animated and which are just props adds to the suspense. You can even make your own fake dummies instead of buying them from the store.

    Spider webs

    • One of the cheapest yet effective decorations you can buy for a haunted is spider webs. They come in bags for only a few dollars and range from the traditional white spider web to glow-in-the-dark green and other colors. Pull chunks of the spider web out and string them across doorways, windows and chairs. Hang a few thin pieces from the ceiling so they'll brush across unsuspecting visitors' faces. For a truly terrifying decoration, hang a large chunk of spider webs in one corner of the ceiling and add in some fake hands or feet and a large spider.

    Snack table

    • Even your snack table can act as a decoration for a haunted house. Start by scattering gummi spiders, gummiworms and gummi bugs over the table and around the bowls. Hang large gummi centipedes off the edges of snack bowls. Pour the punch or soda into a large bowl for serving and drop in frozen olives to look like eyeballs. Set the table in a dimly lit area and no one will know the difference. A rubber rat or two sitting in the corner of the table will add the finishing touch.
