Christmas Eating Tips

103 25
Tis the season to fall into the holiday trap.
Lots of parties, drinking, and eating those wonderful treats.
Now I don't mean to sound like Scrooge but this isn't the time to lose control of your eating habits.
The key is that everything is in moderation.
With several potential outings this time of year, be smart about your choices.
Below is a small diagram to show you a caloric breakdown.
You'll see that this specifies how many calories there are per gram.
For example, if a food item has 10 grams of fat that equates to 90 calories.
If this food choice has 200 total calories and 90 is from fat; this concludes that 45% of the calories are from fat.
The average alcoholic beverage can be about 150 calories per drink.
So again, be conscious if you are serious about not putting on that extra weight.
If you can't burn off the calories you intake you simply put weight on! At these gatherings you will find a wonderful selection of snack foods typically of cookies, oven baked snacks, or just simply put; finger foods.
I would encourage you to hit the vegetable tray if there is one available.
At the very least this gives you the chance to get some healthy foods in you.
However if you have too many treats then you might lose your overall appetite all together while putting in several empty calories.
Try having some water as much as possible to keep your hydration levels up, and curb your hunger.
You can tell people it's vodka water if need be! Ha! Remember a pound of fat is 3500 calories and this can accumulate very quickly on a day to day basis if unhealthy habits are consistent.
The deceiving part of these treats is there can be a lot of hidden calories in them.
Now I don't expect you to do a bunch of label reading or ask the host for the box it came in for review.
Absolutely enjoy this time of year! But keep mindful of how much of these treats and drinks you are having.
I would also encourage you to combat these additional bad calories by being active.
Your body appreciates any type of workout and mobility so assist it in burning those calories off! I realize everyone lives in all different climates so get out and do something you enjoy.
Whether its a loved one, family, or pet.
When we are active and have company it makes everything that much more enjoyable! Enjoy your holiday season and have a fantastic healthy New Year!
