How to Clean SCUBA Diving Equipment
- 1). Rinse off all of your SCUBA equipment in fresh water to remove salt deposits. The regulator should be rinsed while it is still attached to the tank and the tank valve should stay open. Set aside your snorkel, mask, fins and weight belt to air dry.
- 2). Take the nozzle and spray water into your wetsuit and and the insides of your dive booties. Turn your wetsuit inside out so that you can thoroughly remove salt and sand.
- 3). Apply a wetsuit conditioner. If odors are a concern, then add a wetsuit conditioner, such as Suit Fresh Wetsuit Shampoo & Conditioner to your final rinse, following the instructions on the package.
- 4). Hang wetsuit and dive booties to dry. Wetsuit should be hung, inside out, on a clothes hangar to drip dry. Dive booties should also be hung up to drip dry.
- 5). Clean the inside of the buoyancy compensation device (BCD) bladder. Press down on the deflate button on the inflator hose and allow water to enter through the exhaust valve until it is one-third full then inflate the rest of the way with air. Shake the BCD so that the water swishes around the inside.
- 6). Turn the BCD upside down to to drain the water through the exhaust valve.
- 7). Partially inflate the BCD prior to storing it so that the insides of the bladder don't stick together.
- 8). Press down on the purge button on the regulator to make sure that there's no water in the regulator's first stage.
- 9). Close the valve on the tank and detach the regulator from tank. Dry the dust cap either using a dry cloth or by blowing air from the tank onto the dust cap. Replace the dust cap on the regulator and dry it with a clean towel.
