How to Remove Rust From Tiles
- 1). Put on safety equipment such as goggles, breathing mask and gloves before getting started; most cleaners have acidic properties that make even vapors harmful.
- 2). Clean rusted tile with tap water and dry before applying your cleaner to avoid mixing the cleaner with unknown substances. Use a cleaning solution appropriate for your specific tiling material. Allow the cleaner to set according to directions on the container.
- 3). Scrub off the rust with a brush or other abrasive tool. Choose your scrubber carefully; some materials damage easily with stronger buffing tools.
- 4). Clean up the cleaning solution with a dry towel or paper towel. Give it a final rinse of water and dry again. Do not allow water to evaporate, which will cause more rusting. The more often you clean, the less likely you will have rust problems.
