    • Ford refers to the Ford F-550 series of pick-up trucks as heavy duty trucks. This range of trucks includes the Ford Excursion, the King Ranch and others. These trucks have been marketed for personal and commercial use, and this line of trucks is still on sale in 2010. The trucks are versatile, with many additional options and personal customizations available to ensure that the F550 fits the customer's needs.

    Engine and Fuel Tank

    • The F-550 is available in three engine sizes. The standard engine first released was a 5.4L Triton V8 engine with aluminum heads. This engine produces 300 horsepower. The first upgrade available was to a 6.8L Triton V10, with aluminum heads. This engine is slightly more powerful, giving the driver 355 hp. The final upgrade available was the 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel V8. This engine is not as powerful, giving only 325 hp, however, the fuel consumption is less and it is cheaper in relation to petroleum. The standard fuel tank size for all F-550 models is 40 gallons. This can be upgraded with a secondary tank holding 19 gallons for an additional cost.

    Steering and Brakes

    • The F-550 uses a power recirculation ball system with an overall ratio of 17:8. With this system the F550 possesses a curb-to-curb turning circle of 42.3 feet for the regular cab. The larger models have a larger turning circle, with the super cab's being 54.8 feet and the crew cab's 57.8 feet. There are variations that depend on the vehicle's upgrades and optional extras.

    Seating Dimensions

    • The F550 range of trucks comes with a selection of cab sizes. There are three sizes of cab available; super cab, crew cab and regular cab. The regular cab, being the smallest, only sits two, with a third half-seat. The super cab and the crew cab are both designed to sit more people, with each holding five full seats and one half-seat. Legroom remained the same in all cabs, 41.1 cubic feet, but the headroom crept up from the regular cab to the crew cab.
