How To Get Published Through An Agent

103 10
Writing a book is a dream come true for a lot of people but if you've just finished yours, taking the next big step is the next challenge - publishing it.
It's not exactly a challenge if you're thinking about finding a publisher.
There are many resources you can find online but before you jump at the first company that makes you a seemingly good offer, there are steps you need to take patiently and carefully.
It's not enough that you have written a good book.
What's going to seal this project is finding a good publisher that will give justice to all the work that you've poured into it.
A very helpful thing to do is find an agent.
These are people who can help you find a publisher and act as middlemen.
You can Google them and visit websites where you can have a glimpse of how things work.
You're going to need an agent because this person will know how the publishing industry works and how to go about finding a good deal with publishers.
Agents can also offer advice on whether or not the book is ready for publishing or if it needs some polishing before it can be proposed to a publisher with any amount of success.
Finding a good agent will increase your chances of getting a deal but it's not exactly a guarantee.
There are also publishers who only entertain authors who propose through an agent.
However, to find an agent, what you need is a complete and convincing proposal.
You have to make good in this because this is what's going to get your proposal to the publisher with higher chances of winning a deal.
It must include a summary of your book, the readers you want to target, self-introduction, an outline or summary of each chapter in your book and word count.
Remember that this is the first big step you should take after making your final draft and making sure it's ready for publishing.
If you've had written books before, it will be an advantage to mention these books and when were published.
If you hold expertise is anything that plays a significant part in your book, mention it as well.
For example, if you're a forensic investigation expert and you have written a police drama story, it would add points to your credibility and, thus, to your book.
Once you've written a good proposal, go ahead and submit it to an agent you can trust and wait for things to happen.
Of course, you have the option to transact directly with publishing companies but having an agent can help to get you published because this person has the know-how and experience in the publishing industry.
