Okaloosa Island Activities
- Okaloosa Island features a variety of parasailing opportunities in the Gulf of Mexico. Just Chute Me (parasailingfl.com) is a parasailing outfit in Destin that offers parasailing rides off of Okaloosa Island. This parasailing company provides 10- to 12-minute rides for passengers. During the ride, passengers fly up to 800 feet in the air. At the time of publication, Just Chute Me is open seven days a week from March to October. All riders must be at least 17 years old.
- The Okaloosa Island Boardwalk (theboardwalkoi.com) is a family-friendly entertainment center on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico. Some of the boardwalk's facilities include beach volleyball courts and picnicking tables. The boardwalk also offers opportunities for boutique shopping and dining at seafood eateries such as Crab Trap (crabtrapontheisland.com), Black Pearl (blackpearlgrill.com) and Floyd's Shrimp House (floydsshrimphouse.com). This entertainment center also features the Boardwalk Arcade, where visitors have access to video arcade games. The boardwalk has a parking lot adjacent to the Gulf of Mexico beach.
- The Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier (okaloosaislandpier.com) is a premier spot for fishing on Okaloosa Island. It is the only public pier on the island available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Completed in 1972, the pier is over 1,260 feet long. Mackeral, tuna, carpon and cobia are the primary fish that visitors catch off the pier. Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier features a bait & tackle shop that sells snacks and fishing bait. A Florida state license is not required for fishing on the pier.
- Florida's Gulfarium (gulfarium.com) faces the Gulf of Mexico and is the only aquarium on Okaloosa Island. Open since 1955, the Gulfarium is the second-oldest aquarium park in the United States. This aquarium features marine wildlife such as dolphins, sea lions, Peruvian penguins, sharks and stingrays. Visitors may interact with dolphins at the Spotted Dolphin Encounter exhibit, while the Living Sea provides a glimpse of underwater sea life.
On the Choctawhatchee Bay side, Okaloosa Island is home to the Island Golf Center (no website; 1306 Miracle Strip Parkway SE; Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548; 850-244-1612). This entertainment center features a nine-hole miniature golf course and bungee jumping.
