How to Clean Room Ducting
- 1). Turn off the central heat and air-conditioning system. If your house has a breaker box, locate the breaker that controls the air system and flip it to the "off" position.
- 2). Remove the vent covers from the floors or walls throughout the house, using the screwdriver. Remove and discard the old vent filters. Clean the vent covers thoroughly with rags and spray cleaner; let dry. Install new air filters and set the covers aside.
- 3). Attach the hose to the vacuum and the cleaning attachment to the hose. Wind duct tape around the join between the hose and the attachment. Vacuum the mouth of the first duct, then as far down the duct as you can reach with the vacuum hose. Withdraw the hose and clean the mouth of the duct with rags and cleaning spray. Repeat for all ducts.
- 4). Replace the vent covers. Turn the breaker switch and the heating/air conditioning system back on.
