How to Decorate Tree Branches With Tulle
- 1). Study the tree you wish to decorate to determine where and how you want to place your tulle. If your event will be occurring under the tree, you may want the tulle to hang down from the branches. In this case, arrange the tulle to hang between the branches, closer to the trunk of the tree. You can tie the tulle to the centers of the branches to achieve the right drape. If not, most of the tulle should be arranged on the tips of the branches so you can see it.
- 2). Select a style to use for your tulle decorations. Some style ideas include clusters, bows or a tulle garland. You may also combine the three styles.
- 3). Turn 2-foot-square pieces of tulle into clusters. Curl your non-dominant hand into a fist and drape two squares over it. Push the centers of the squares down into the center of your fist, creating a ruffled cluster. Wrap the end of the cluster in wire to keep it in place. Use two squares for each cluster.
- 4). Snip swaths of tulle about 2 feet wide and 6 feet long for bows. Tie a bow in the center of each swath and let the tails hang down to flutter in the breeze.
- 5). Create garland by cutting a swath of tulle about four times longer than your tree is wide. Twist the tulle into a long, soft tube by twisting one of the ends in your hands. The tulle should curl in on itself, much like twisting a hand towel to wring it out.
- 6). Place a stepladder under your tree.
- 7). Decorate the tree with your specific tulle decor. Attach clusters to the tree with the extra wire that protrudes from the bottom of each. Slip the knots of bows over small twigs and branch tips. Wind a garland around the tree just like Christmas lights.
- 8). Create a random pattern made of either clusters or bows. Tuck garlands back into the branches so that they cover bare places and not the tree's natural beauty. Wind the garlands in a spiral around the tree. Gently push sections of the spiral back toward the trunk to hide sparsely foliaged areas.
