103 158
So you swear by your personal regimen for physical development? You just know that if you guided anyone through your program and maintained them on it, that they would feel and be in the best physical shape they've been in since entering high school.
You must be a very good personal trainer if you're that confident in your skills.
But not all skills are physical in nature for the consistently successful personal trainer.
Business skills are a key component to maintaining a successful and growing personal training business.
After all, it is a business that you're engaging in, aren't you? It sure is, and it's your responsibility as CEO to make sure that it functions well.
What business skills must you focus on? Marketing skills come first.
How will anyone know that you're the best personal trainer in their area? You need to market yourself.
Will you be advertising? What media source will you utilize? The local papers? How about the internet? Will you be printing flyers about your service? Are you working out of a particular gym, or will you also make house calls? Know your market, know your marketing budget, and determine how best to reach your market.
These are questions that will hone your marketing skills.
Next, you will need some sales skills.
Yes, you will need to learn how to relate to people on a face to face basis.
As you meet with potential clients to discuss your training methods, you are in the persuasive phase of sales.
After meeting with you, your prospect must be "sold" on hiring you as a personal trainer.
You will need to know a "sales" presentation that is scripted and will lead to a natural agreement to engage on the part of your client.
Here's where you showcase your exclusive training regimen and how it is physically beneficial to your client in a most reasonable time.
Good sales skills mean good closing ratios which mean lots of clients.
You need to be organized.
Organization skills are key in developing a growing customer base.
Everyone you speak to about your personal training service has a name, address, phone number, email address, physical goal to achieve, etc.
It's important to keep records of all this information.
You also need to know what schedules have been set up for them to train during the week and at what times.
Keeping good records means you will always be there early for your session and will be working on areas that they feel they need help in.
You can always hire part-time clerical help once your business has grown substantially.
Remember that you'll always need to keep in good business shape.
