    • 1). Turn off the Bissell Proheat vacuum cleaner, and remove the power cord from the wall socket to reduce the risk of electric shock. Press the handle release lever, and lower the handle to the floor. Remove the two tanks that contain the cleaning solution, and set them aside.

    • 2). Use a small, flathead screwdriver to pry the belt access door off the vacuum cleaner. Look for the slot near the Floor Cleaning/Tools switch, and insert the screwdriver in the slot nearest the handle. Gently pry, and lift to remove the access door. Look inside the access door to see if the belts are intact or if they are broken. Rotate the vacuum so that the bottom of the unit is facing you and the access door is facing up.

    • 3). Look at the underside of the Bissell vacuum near the top end of the brush roller. Locate the red retainer clip that secures the brush arm and belt. Use your Phillips-head screwdriver to loosen the screw that secures the red clip. Remove the black brush arm, red clip and screw, and set them aside.

    • 4). Grasp the brush roller and gently pull it out of the vacuum. Remove the brush belt from the toothed end of the brush roller. Remove the other end of the brush belt from pump pulley. If the belt is broken, use needle nose pliers to remove the residual belt from the vacuum. Look deeper in the vacuum, and remove the pump belt if it is still connected to the pump pulley. Remove the broken belt if it still remains in the vacuum.

    • 5). Loop one end of the replacement pump belt around the red pump pulley and the other end around the silver motor shaft. Install the replacement brush belt around the pump pulley. Loop the other end of the brush belt around the geared end of the brush roller, and install the brush roller back into the vacuum. Rotate the brush roller to make sure it spins properly and doesn't bind.

    • 6). Reinstall the black brush arm by placing it onto the brush, and sliding it into the base. Place the red retainer clip into place, and fasten it with the screw using your screwdriver.

    • 7). Turn the Bissell Proheat vacuum cleaner so it is right-side up. Replace the belt access door, and reinstall both of the cleaning tanks. Lift the handle back to the original position. The cleaner is now ready to use.
