How to Block Pop-Up Windows in Safari
Blocking Pop-Ups in the Safari Browser
Pop-up windows have long been an annoyance that many Web surfers would rather do without. While some do serve a purpose, most modern browsers provide a way to suppress them from appearing.
Apple's Safari browser offers an integrated pop-up blocker on both the Windows and Mac platforms, as well as on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. This tutorial shows you how to enable/disable this handy feature in a few simple steps.
OS X users should skip directly to Step 2.
Windows users should skip directly to Step 5.
iPad users should skip directly to Step 6.
iPhone and iPod touch users should skip directly to Step 9.
Safari Menu (OS X)
Click on Safari in your browser menu, located at the top of your screen. When the drop-down menu appears, choose Preferences....
Please note that you can use the following shortcut keys in lieu of clicking the menu choice: Command (Apple) + COMMA (,)
General Preferences (OS X)
Safari's General Preferences dialog should now be displayed, overlaying your browser window. Click on the Security tab, circled in the example above.
Block Pop-Up Windows (OS X)
Safari's Security Preferences should now be displayed. In the Web content section is an option labeled Block pop-up windows, accompanied by a check box. If this check box is populated, as it is in the example above, then Safari's integrated pop-up blocker is currently enabled. If it is not enabled, simply click on the empty check box to complete the activation process.
Block Pop-Up Windows (Windows)
Click on the Gear icon, also known as the Action Menu, located in the upper right hand corner of your browser window. When the drop-down menu appears, locate the option labeled Block Pop-Up Windows (circled in the example above). If a check mark is found to the left of this option, as it is above, then Safari's integrated pop-up blocker is currently active. If it is not enabled, simply click on this option to complete the activation process.
Please note that you can utilize the following keyboard shortcut to toggle Safari's pop-up blocker on and off: CTRL + SHIFT + K
Home Screen (iPad)
Start at your iPad's Home screen, as shown in the example above. Select the Settings icon.
Settings Menu (iPad)
Your iPad Settings menu should now be displayed. Scroll down until you see the choice labeled Safari. Select this option.
Block Pop-Ups (iPad)
Safari's Settings screen should now be displayed. The third option in the Security section, Block Pop-ups, can be enabled or disabled by selecting its accompanying ON/OFF button (circled in the example above).

Start at your iPhone or iPod touch's Home screen, as shown in the example above. Select the Settings icon.
