103 33
If you have come in here for some strength training workouts, you are definitely going to get them although you will be surprised by the simplicity of the exercises.
The truth is that the best strength training workouts are those that do not need any gym equipment at all.
So many people are lost in the hype and drama about sophisticated gyms and machines that they forget the basic exercises that will provide the best possible results.
Without much further ado, here they are.
The pushup - Don't start groaning once you hear the word pushup.
Many people never do these exercises.
If you are in good shape, you should be able to do about 30 without breaking a sweat.
If you haven't done it in a long time, try it out and you will be surprised by how demanding the simple exercise is.
You will have to work your chest, shoulders, biceps, forearms, back, abdominals and even your legs to a certain extent.
If you are really struggling with the pushup, start off with what is called the ladies pushup where you can support your body weight on your knees.
This will be much easier to do and will still be a great strength training workout.
The pull up - The next exercise is the pull up.
You will need a simple pull up bar for this.
You can find it at any sports shop and you can install it between doorways in your house.
This is rather difficult exercise to do as it will need a strong upper back, something that is not very common.
When you do these exercises, try not to swing your body back and forth.
Your upper body should do all the work when you lift yourself.
If you do the pull ups regularly, you will be amazed by how much your overall strength increases.
The plank hold - This is a great exercise that will target your core muscles.
Your core muscles are your abdominal and lower back muscles.
Assume a pushup position.
The only difference is that you will have to support your body weight on your forearms that will be parallel to the ground.
Try to hold a still position as you breathe normally.
Just after a few seconds, you will start to feel a burn in your core muscles which will get stronger and stronger as you do them over a period of time.
Strength training exercises without weight can be used to achieve a sleek and angular look that will give the appearance of a shrink wrapped body where the skin is very taut around the muscles.
