Asking for Help

106 29
You may be a Javascript beginner who just pastes prebuilt scripts into your web page or a Javascript expert who write your own complex scripts. If either of these describes you or if you fall somewhere in between then there will be occasions where you havs some Javascript that just refuses to behave the way that it should and where you have no idea as to why it is not working. Admittedly this situation will be more common for the beginner than for the expert but even the expert will occassionally get stuck.

This doesn't mean that having your Javascript fail to work is an insurmountable problem though because there are plenty of other people who would be happy to help you figure out what is wrong with your Javascript. You just have to ask them the right way and in the right place.

There is no point in just broadcasting a message to the effect that your Javascript doesn't work and can someone please fix it for you. Few people will devote much time to fixing a problem for you unless there is something in it for them and so you need to make it as easy as possible for others to help you out.

To improve the chances that someone will devote enough time to your problem to solve it for you you need to provide them with the specifics of what the script is supposed to do and what isn't working right so that they don't waste time looking at the wrong thing.
