Golfing Driving Range For a Better Game
Golf is a social, relaxing sport which can give you a great fitness boost to benefit your health and well being.
Maybe you are consistently losing your game, maybe your style needs improving.
Well, practise is the key to success.
What better place to practise is at a golfing driving range for a better game.
Driving Ranges are one of the best places people can go to improve their golfing skills.
There is no competition of a golf game and hence provide a relaxing atmosphere.
You are there for one mission and that is to work on your weaker areas eg posture, grip and swing techniques.
As you are not on the golf course you will not be holding golfers up.
Better still, if there is a golfing instructor on site at the driving range then why not make use of the opportunity to learn the correct techniques before you practise.
Practising wrong techniques will not do you any good.
Felix is at the driving range today and wants to improve his technique so he can feel more confident about playing golf with his more experienced friends.
I was available to ask him some questions.
1.
What is it about your golf that you want to improve? My swing technique.
2.
When you get to a driving range what do you do first? Warm up, as I do not want to injure myself.
Also I will feel less tense and have better control on the balls I hit.
3.
So why are you walking around and moving your arms- I thought you were wanting to practise your swing? I do, but there is a queue and I thought I would make use of time and start warming up this way, especially since when you play golf you walk around a lot and move your arms to hit the ball.
4.
What actions will you take when it is your turn? I will swing twelve small shots and aim for smoothness, concentrating on making contact with the ball.
I will then move onto twelve medium length shots, still trying to keep the swing controlled and smooth and concentrating on shooting the ball in a preselected general area.
5.
Then what? It will be time to work on my long shots as I should be fairly warmed up.
I will shoot about ten of these and aim for the fifty yard mark and greater.
I have found so far that hitting a bucket of balls at the driving range on a regular basis is making my swing stronger and more controlled.
6.
After the long shots are you finished your practise? No, I will go out to the putting green and putt at different speeds and angles on the green so that I can get an idea of how the balls roll and behave under the varying conditions.
This is because putting greens can be different from hole to hole at the same golf course and different golf courses around the world.
7.
So Felix, am I right at understanding that your game will improve more quickly if you practise hard and often at the driving range? Yes, to my understanding.
I have not been golfing for long but I have noticed an improvement already in my game.
I can appreciate that if you practise harder and more often than you are currently doing then you are more likely to play a better game of golf.
8.
Are you happy with your grip and posture and tee shot? As I have told you before, I am working on my swing.
It is improving and when I hit a nice, straight tee shot then my grip and posture must have been spot on.
Also if my swing is strong, with the ball going in the right direction, then this initial drive is more likely to get my ball closer to the hole and hence fewer strokes required to get my ball into the hole.
My aim is to get the least number of strokes possible from the tee to the hole so I can get a better score.
9.
Are there any other benefits to practising at the driving range? Well I am finding that my confidence to play golf is improving.
I am getting keener as I am improving.
Also I am learning and feeling how to reduce tension in my arms.
If you are relaxed you are more likely to play a better game 10.
Overall, does practising at a golfing driving range for a better game inspire you? Definitely, I highly recommend it.
11.
Now for your final question.
Would you be interested in other methods to also help improve your swing and overall golfing style? Sure, I am open to anything to help me beat my friends.
