    Puffy Snowman

    • Mix shaving cream with equal parts of kid-friendly glue to use to cover the body of the snowman. Draw three circles in the shape of a snowman on a piece of construction paper. Have children use a popsicle stick to spread the shaving cream mixture inside the circles. Use wiggly eyes, buttons and ribbon to decorate the snowman. Encourage children to also put some of the mixture on the paper to represent falling snow or piles of snow outside.

    Snow Paintings

    • Bring a large plastic container full of snow from outside into the house. A clear container works best. Place the container on a floor covered with newspaper. Fill empty plastic spray bottles with water and food coloring. Allow children to spray the food coloring on the snow to make it turn colors. If a clear container is used, children can watch the colors drip through the snow. Place the container outside to preserve the snow art for a few days.

    Winter Snowstorm

    • Create a simple winter snowstorm using white rice. Have your child spread white glue on a piece of construction paper or a picture she has previously colored. Sprinkle white rice on the paper and shake off the excess. When dry, the picture will look like a snowstorm has taken over the page. Instead of white rice, you can also use white glitter.

    Paint With Ice

    • Freeze ice cubes that are a mix of food color and water. Remove the ice cubes from the freezer. Have children put on their mittens, preferably mittens in dark colors so they do not stain as easily, and allow them to paint with the ice. As the ice melts it will create a watercolor effect on a piece of paper.

    Winter Cookies

    • Make a basic sugar-cookie recipe. Before baking the cookies, have children use a snowflake-shaped cookie cutter to cut shapes out of the cookie dough and then sprinkle the shapes with white or light blue sprinkles. Children can also sprinkle round sugar cookies with white nonpareils or other white cookie sprinkles to create the look of a snowball once baked.
