How to Restore the Original Search in XP
- 1). Open the Registry Editor. To do this, go to "Start" and "Run," then type "regedit" into the search box and click "OK." The Registry Editor will now open up onscreen.
- 2). Navigate to the Registry search directory. To do this, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows Desktop Search > DS, then right-click on "ShowStartSearchBand" and select "Modify" from the context menu.
- 3). Replace the current "Value data" entry (should be "1") with "0" (zero character), then click "OK."
- 4). Close the Registry Editor and open the Windows XP search tool. The original search will now open up in place of the new search.
