How to Get Pregnant Without Having Sex?

    • 1). Visit a doctor that specializes in Assisted Reproductive Technology. The doctor, typically called an endocrinologist, will help you decide whether artificial insemination or IVF is right for you. Artificial insemination is usually considered appropriate when there are no known fertility problems. IVF is commonly used when there is an identifiable problem either with the reproductive abilities of the man or the woman, or if repeated attempts at artificial insemination have not helped the woman conceive (even though there are no identifiable fertility problems).

    • 2). Choose a sperm donor. Since both methods require the sperm to be united with the egg by artificial means, a man must agree to contribute his sperm to enable conception. The donor may be your husband, partner or a friend who has agreed to help you conceive. The donor may also be someone you have chosen anonymously through a sperm bank.

    • 3). Undergo the procedure. Neither procedure is a 1-day affair. In both cases, you have to be strictly monitored by your doctor throughout your menstrual cycle so that it is known exactly when the your egg(s) are ripe enough to be either fertilized by injected sperm or extracted and united with sperm in a laboratory. IVF is an especially lengthy process as, in almost all cases, you take fertility drugs in the form of hormone shots, which requires monitoring of your cycle up to 6 weeks in advance of the actual extraction/fertilization procedure.

    • 4). Await the results. As with natural conception, you will find out whether you're pregnant roughly 2 weeks after ovulation. In the case of IVF, you will have to use artificial hormones for those 2 weeks after the fertilized eggs are transferred back to your uterus. These hormones are essential to sustaining conception, if it occurs.
