How to Cut a Flower Radish
- 1). Trim off most of the radish top but leave about 2 inches of stem and any leaves that may be attached close to the radish itself. Trim the root end from the radish, removing any hairlike roots and the root tip.
- 2). Wash the radishes. Scrub around the stems to ensure all the dirt has been removed.
- 3). Hold the stem with one hand and a sharp paring knife with the other. Shave a small slice into the radish from the root end down toward the stem. Make the slice about 1/8 inch thick. Follow the contours of the radish globe and stop cutting when you are about 1/4 inch from the stem.
- 4). Turn the radish 1/3 of the way around and make another slice into the radish similar to the first one. Turn the radish again and make a third cut in the same manner. You now have a radish with three equidistant cuts around the outside surface, which are the three petals on your flower.
- 5). Fill a bowl with very cold water. Place the cut radishes in the cold water for one hour. This will crisp the radishes and open up the petals of the flower.
- 6). Remove the radishes from the cold water after one hour and set them on paper towels to drain before using them.
