When you start your weight loss program it is helpful to know that there are some very useful tips that can be used in order to lose weight in a healthy way. Below is a 5 step weight loss program that has been proven to help people become successful and keep the weight off.

The First Step: Set goals for yourself that are realistic


You will lose your motivation if you set weight loss goals that may be impossible to reach. Decide what you want to get from your weight loss program. Do you want to be healthier, look better, feel better?

Every little goal you achieve helps move you closer to your ultimate weight loss goal. If goals are set which are unrealistic, frustration and disappointment will result even if there has been a good deal of progress with your weight loss program.

The Second Step: Get Rid of the Junk Food Temptations


You can't lose weight when there are tempting foods in your cabinets and refrigerator so TOSS THEM OUT.

Replace all the junk food with healthy, high-energy, filling alternatives. I know, I know...this is a hard step to take, especially when those midnight cravings hit. It won't be easy in the beginning, but once you get used to the taste of fruits and vegetables, not to mention all the delicious low fat alternatives on the market today, you will wonder how you ever put all that other junk into your mouth.

The Third Step: Reward Yourself


As with any accomplishment, you deserve a reward. Decide what type of reward you will give yourself and when, and stick with it! If you love clothes, buy a new pair of jeans after you lose the first 5 pounds. If you love music, buy yourself some new CD's after the first 10 pounds. This will give you some extra incentive to keep working on your weight loss program and add to your wardrobe and music library at the same time.

Exercise Step 4: Get Up and Move


The only way to get maximum results and keep the results of your weight loss plan is to exercise. Do not believe any weight loss program that claims you can lose weight and keep it off with no physical activity.

Start off slowly. When people overdue their exercise program in the beginning, it causes burnout and can also cause injuries which can delay weight loss. Walking is an excellent choice for anyone to begin with. It supplies a good cardiovascular workout while being gentle on the entire body.

Step 5: Get Enough Sleep and Take Time to Relax


Adults require at least 7 hours of sleep per night in order to regenerate both mind and body. Without adequate rest, the body becomes worn down and does not function properly. This can greatly delay the weight loss process because the body is attempting to hang on to every ounce of "fat energy" it can.

Meditation is a great way to become relaxed and focused. Relieving stress can also aid in weight loss. Stress produces hormones that can not only add weight but reduce the chances of being successful with your weight loss program.

By following these steps, you can increase your chances of reaching your weight loss goals. One major key is to take it slow, don't expect too much of yourself and don't push yourself physically. I can tell you that these tips work. I have personally put this plan into action and since January I have lost 25 pounds. It took me 6 months but the fact that I lost the weight slowly and in a healthy way will insure that I will keep the weight off for good.
