At first glance this may seem not to be a political article about a politically hot issue, but it is! In fact, this is one of the most far reaching case ever taken to a court.
And the problem, as I see it, is that the court is European Court of Human Rights! And you know what that means! The implications to our very lives is enormous! For one thing, this is all about Chimpanzee Civil Rights! No, not about a person in the country of Chimpanzee; a real live, from Africa chimpanzee! (notice please there is no capitalization this time?) You see, a couple of Chimps were smuggled into Austria.
Smuggled by criminals who wanted to use them as Guinea Pigs.
Seriously.
And not only are the Guinea Pigs upset, but so are the people of Austria! There are some who want this chimp, and all the others like him, to become "persons".
No, that's not right, it needs to be capitalized; to become "Persons".
Like me and you, Persons! After all, they have "personalities", and they are after all, 98% gene pool sharing with humans, right? And under the laws of that host country, being a person is important.
That is; if you want to become independent.
To live free.
To eat.
To pay utility bills.
To copyright your pictures, drawings, and I would suppose, the "missiles" that they all chunk at tourists.
Yes, being a "Person" is important.
The law caught these two chimps in a shipment coming into the country.
They sentenced? them to life at a sanctuary.
The sanctuary went bankrupt.
(as many do eventually) Now what can we do with these "person-like" chimps? What kind and of what quality of life is to be theirs? Lord only knows.
Yes.
Lord only knows.
If this case wins in the highest Courts of Europe, then in fact the quality of life for you and me is in some jeopardy.
It won't be the same aroundhere either! We can't trade with Europe if we ignore their laws.
Remember? We don't trade with Cuba because there are "Persons of persuasion" there ruling that country.
So the rest of the country cannot get medical supplies, nor toliet paper I suppose, from the United States of America.
What will this new One World Government be like with, I suppose the law would be amended for all animals eventually, I mean you have to have equality, right?What will this country will be like when you and I can be hauled before a World Court, right along with the Chimps? I wonder..

For one thing, no political leader of any country would dare ignore the Chimp vote! Any Chimp could become the next President! They would have preference over you and I when at the Social Security counter, the voting booth, the medical hospital, and the banks.
I know that because some that are not "Legal Persons" do so now, at the expense of you and I.
I am not trying to be crass here, I am not into insults.
Nor am I comparing Mexican Citizens to Chimpanzees! I am only comparing the law to both newly "citizenship Persons", who have immigrated to the United States of America.
You see, I think this is foolish on a lot of levels, this "Personalizing" of Chimpanzees.
For instance, with out "open border" program, we could get a massive influx of Lama People! Sure, I ain't kiddingyou here! Our Penguin Population could result in a change at the food subsidy program.
Now we would have to permit fish and blubber purchases by anyone "Personas" who has a Welfare Card.
And of course there is "Cross-breed" Love.
I must find a better description for that! I mean, Chimpanzee People will want to marry whoever they will.
And there may begin a movement, and there are many that are interested, to have two humans and one animal marriages! I mean, we often in the past have seen our favorite pet as part of our family, right? So what is one more "Species"? By the way, I just had a thought, are "Chimpanzee (or any other) Person" really considered a separate specie from man? Mmm, have to look into that...
But until the highest Court in the European Continent makes a decision, we have people here that can be appointed to care and nurture and handle the chimpanzees in this country.
We call them, "Zoo Keepers".
I suppose we would have to start having court appointed Guardians for our chimps too? They could then own companies, and vote, and buy real estate, and I would suppose, get married to just about anyone they wanted to marry.
The only thing that I see in our Society that they can not do, is Immigrate to Mexico! But then, there are those that would smuggle, right?
