    • 1). Follow the guidelines for a standard descriptive essay. A descriptive essay attempts to bring an object (person, place or experience) to life for the reader, while at the same time allowing the writer a great deal of creative freedom.

    • 2). Appeal to the senses. Use all of your senses to describe the mirror. What does the glass feel like? What does its surface look like?

    • 3). Use vivid language to describe your mirror. Instead of saying that its surface is "shiny", why not say it is "polished" or "glistening"?

    • 4). Include any emotional reactions you experience in relation to the mirror. This will allow you to connect on a deeper level to your reader and add strength to your description.

    • 5). Use anecdotes to explore your relationship to this mirror. What are some memories that come to mind when you contemplate the mirror? What has been the mirror's history?

    • 6). Explore the symbolism of mirrors. Mirrors are objects rich in symbolism. They can represent the threshold between dimensions, or can symbolize the gateway between this world and the next. Mirrors symbolize both illusion and naked reality. They can have an air of mystery and superstition, but most basically, mirrors reflect us back to ourselves.
