What Could Have Caused My Loss of Hair and A Simple Three Step Approach To Do Something About It?

105 14
Loss of hair can change a person's appearance dramatically making them seem and appear older and less attractive. Some men simply take it in stride or proudly shave their head, claiming that it is something they always wanted to do. Women on the other hand are not likely to take that approach and fight to slow their loss of hair with everything they have. Whatever your attitude toward loss of hair most would agree that a healthy vibrant head of hair will not only make you look younger and healthier but it will make you feel better about yourself.

The causes of balding and/or thinning hair are about as diverse as the individuals that experience them. It can be caused by poor nutrition, crash diets, hormone imbalance, heredity, stress, liver disease, kidney disease, lupus, diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome, amphetamines, blood pressure medications, bacterial or fungal scalp infection, burns, harsh shampoos, pregnancy, high fever, surgery, chemotherapy drugs, thyroid disorders, and even some acne medications. In fact almost anything that impacts scalp circulation, reduces nutrition to the hair, reduces follicle size and/or health, or interrupts the hair replacement cycle will likely cause loss of hair.

With such a long list of causes, halting and/or reversing the balding and/or thinning process can be a confusing pursuit especially with the vast array of hair care products available. Nevertheless, I can tell you that it can be done. You see, I have been able to stop any additional hair loss for over ten years now. Perhaps my experience with natural health gave me a slight advantage but if you have a few minutes I would like to share with you the steps I took in hopes they might prove helpful in your battle against loss of hair.

I started to recognize the signs of male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) in my early 30's with the thinning on top, a hair line that was beginning to recede, and what looked a like a bald spot trying to form around the crown and was shocked that it could happen to me due to my healthy lifestyle.

After doing a little research it became clear that in order to keep from paying a visit to the big bald house some form of action must be taken. My approach revolved around eliminating any nutritional deficiencies, conditioning the scalp and follicles, and blocking the androgen hormone dihydrotestosterone which is responsible, in most cases, for shrinking the hair follicle.

*Diet changes: My approach was to try to eat a more balance diet that was high in protein and B vitamins. Foods high in B vitamins and particularly B12 are tempeh, miso, liver, fish, and eggs. B supplements are also available and very affordable.

*Topical follicle rejuvenation: When I started my plan minoxidil was not mainstream and not sold over the counter so my choices were limited. A topical nut oil blend including almond oil seemed to show positive results for me when massaged into the scalp once a day. Some have had success with pumpkin seed oil, peppermint, or lavender oil but almond was and still is my first choice.

*Herbal supplementation to block DHT: My choice was saw palmetto. I have found that consistently taking either saw palmetto alone or hair re-growth products containing both saw palmetto and nettle root extract do a pretty good job in protecting my hair from DHT. In fact when a miss a few weeks the appearance of my hair starts to change and become finer and not as soft to the touch. It is almost like it is dehydrated but that is not the case.

In summary, what worked, and is still working, for me may not work for you but nevertheless it could be worth a try especially if you are serious about stopping your loss of hair. Additionally, there are a number of products currently on the market which combine herbal supplementation, nutrition, and follicle regeneration ingredients which will be easier and probably less expensive than trying to buy each of the above ingredients separately. These hair re-growth supplemental formulas have shown to be effective for some and are an treatment option for loss of hair worth taking a few minutes of your valuable time to learn more about.
