Growth and Stability is the Future for Career Registered Nurses

101 12
As the uncertain job market continues to loom over the economy, taking a serious account of your future career has become essential for college students.  When taking stock of job security through factors such as technology and population, a few occupations are most expected to increase at an accelerated rate, even while others may fail. Many of these jobs are in healthcare, especially the need for registered nurses.

Registered nurses (RN) are healthcare professionals that enjoy great pay ($64,690 median yearly salary as of 2010) and benefits, as well as job stability and 26% job growth in the next ten years. RNs are going into high demand for a few reasons. First of all, increased technology and preventative healthcare methods are going to give rise to the need for more hospital staff and healthcare professionals. Secondly, the aging baby boomer population is going to put a heavy strain on the healthcare industry to supply them with care and treatment. RNs are expected to be an integral part of filling that role in the healthcare industry.

In relation to pay and job stability, there are relatively low barriers to enter a career as an RN. Work experience is gained onsite; as such many hospitals do not require much field experience before hiring. Education programs are often streamlined to include all of the necessary field experience required to work at top hospitals. Health Care education programs geared specifically for registered nurses can range anywhere from an associate's degree to a bachelor's degree in length. They typically feature an emphasis on clinical studies, lab studies, and related computer technology training.

However, due to the rigorous nature of the courses and limited available seats, there are prerequisites for entering prestigious nursing programs. Many of the course prerequisites are simply the core curriculum classes; such as college level composition, basic mathematics, etc. However, a strong GPA must be maintained to secure a spot in a nursing program, due to competition. After completing the degree programs a national licensing test must be passed to work as an RN, a standard practice for many careers.

Job security basically boils down to the question of demand for skills. The most secure job is one that society will always have a need for. As it stands, people are always going to get sick, and society will always need able, well-educated professionals to treat the sick and injured. Becoming a registered nurse will result in job growth and stability; take a serious look at a nursing program and decide if those are two things that your want in your career.
