Neck Pain, Causes and Treatment

103 31
Neck pain is a symptom of several underlying serious and non-pathological conditions.
This is why, when you feel pain in the neck, you would have to know the root cause of the problem.
Sometimes the pain can start with a slow throbbing pain that can start at the arms and shoulders.
At times, it is just a slight needling pain.
Determining the root cause of the pain will ensure correct treatment and good prognosis.
Cause of Neck Pain Serious conditions involve degenerative disc diseases, spinal disc herniation, carotid artery dysfunctions or blockage, acute coronary heart diseases, and spinal stenosis.
These are conditions which can result to serious complications and even death, if left untreated.
The neck pain is one of the symptoms of these diseases, so symptoms are correlated with the patient's history, his other physical symptoms and his laboratory diagnostic results.
When the pathologic disease is treated and managed then the neck pain will also disappear.
In certain instances, the use of pain relievers is controlled so that doctors can monitor whether the root cause is successfully being cured or not.
Minor conditions causing neck issues include neck muscle fatigue caused by wrong posture, incorrect sleeping habits, stress, improper standing, and walking methods.
Treatment According to root cause As mentioned above, the therapeutic method will depend on the type of the condition.
An example is in acute coronary heart diseases.
In this particular condition, neck pain is usually caused by hypertension, which may be essential or secondary to diseases.
Atherosclerosis, the thickening of the blood vessel walls due to elevated cholesterol or lipid levels, can cause acute coronary heart diseases.
A laboratory test can confirm the diagnosis.
If the diagnosis is confirmed, then the patient will receive anti-cholesterol drug treatment.
When the cholesterol levels have returned to normal, then the blood pressure will eventually become normal too, with the elimination of the pain.
Drugs If there are no pathologic conditions associated with the pain, then minor muscular fatigue and stress can be treated with exercise or analgesics like ibuprofen, paracetamol and NSAID's.
Physical Therapy Therapeutic exercises are effective ways to reduce and manage neck pain.
Home exercises like neck stretching and flexing exercises can also help a lot.
Proper Posture In the absence of pathologic conditions, maintaining proper posture is the key to eliminating neck pain.
If you acquire a proper posture with your shoulders straight and your chest out, and your head, trunk and feet aligned with each other, then you can eliminate neck pain altogether.
