Replace the Tuning Machine Heads

• The tuning machine heads are the metal objects connected to the head of the guitar that control how the strings are tuned. If the gears in the machine heads are worn down, the machine heads may have trouble keeping your strings in tune, which can greatly affect the sound of the guitar. To keep your Gibson 335 in tune, you should replace your tuning machine heads.
  
  

Straighten a Warped Neck

• The guitar neck is the part of the guitar that contains the fretboard. By pressing the strings of the guitar down on different frets, you can create different chords and notes. If your guitar neck is warped, what is known as the "action" of the guitar will rise or dip too much. The "action" of a guitar describes how close the strings sit to the fret board. If the strings are too far from the fret board, it will make pressing the strings down harder and playing the guitar more difficult. If the strings are too close to the fret board, you may not have the ability to create certain notes on the guitar. If your neck is warped, you should have it straightened.
  
  

Re-solder the Input

• The pickups on your guitar use magnets to transfer the vibrations of your guitar strings into sound. These vibrations are then sent from the pickup to the input, which then connects to your guitar cable and into your amp. Occasionally the solder that connects the pickup wires to the input can wear away and cause your signal to cut in and out. To fix this problem you will need to re-solder or have someone else re-solder the input on your Gibson 335.
  
  

Recoil or Replace Pickups

• If your pickups have worn out or uncoiled, they will no longer function properly and will not produce any sound. If your Gibson 335 is producing no sound at all, you will most likely either need to recoil your pickups or replace your pickups. Recoiling your pickups is a difficult task, so replacing the pickups is often recommended.
